The Balochistan fisheries department has suspended the licences of 37 trawlers operating illegally in the territorial waters of the province and seized six trawlers in a joint operation with the Pakistan Coast Guards.
Official sources said on Friday that a list of 147 fishing trawlers and launches was handed over to the government of Sindh, from where the trawlers were entering Balochistan waters.
The fisheries department detained nine trawlers involved in illegal fishing, and six of them have been seized, the sources said. Meanwhile, a statement issued by the fisheries department said measures were being taken to protect the livelihoods of fishermen in Balochistan and it was keeping an eye on the violations of the maritime boundaries of the province by trawlers coming from Sindh.
