Prek Prosop Fisheries Force and Kratie Fisheries District officers in Cambodia launched a crackdown to suppress the spread of fisheries crimes in the province.
The crackdown was conducted on 14 August, led by Mok Ponlok, Kratie Fisheries District Chief, with the cooperation of Chhlong District Unity Command and fishing community at Boeung Chheuteal Phlos, Prek Saman commune, Chhlong district, Kratie.
Ponlok said that the crackdown on illegal fishing by the force saw the dismantling of more than 35 nets which measures 2,100 metres long, rafts, 560 bamboo poles and enclosures. About 200 kilograms of various fishes were released back into the river.
The authorities continued their call for fishermen to cease illegal fishing activities and the use of illegal fishing equipment. Ponlok stated that these activities destroy fishery resources. In order to maintain sustainable resources for the present and the future people must cooperate with the authorities.
