Fishing in Myanmar’s territorial sea will be banned for three months as an effort to conserve fish resources and species during the spawning season.
“To conserve fish resources and species, we will ban fishing in the sea in the spawning season of the period of April, May and June,” U Hla Tun, deputy permanent secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, told Xinhua.
For this year’s no-fishing period in Myanmar’s territorial sea, some seasonal fishing boats will be suspended for two months from May 1 to June 31 while other fishing activities will be closed for three months from April 1 to June 31.
Fishing in the spawning season can affect the sustainable fish production and food supplies, said the official, adding that people must adhere to the rules to protect fish species from extinction.
