Commercial fishermen in the Bondo Sub County of Kenya have been cautioned against disregarding safety measures while in Lake Victoria to reduce accidents that have been on the rise.
Yimbo West Ward fishermen group Chairman, Julius Odembo, called on the fishermen particularly within the beaches of Bondo Sub-County to pay attention to weather forecasting to assist them in choosing the right conditions to go into the lake to fish.
He said the main challenge facing fishermen in Lake Victoria was harassment by maritime police from neighboring Uganda.
