Hurricane Grace, one of the most powerful storms in years to hit Mexico’s Gulf coast, unleashed torrential rains, leading to severe flooding and mudslides that killed at least eight people.
Hurricane Grace hit Mexico’s Gulf coast as a major Category 3 storm and moved inland Saturday, drenching coastal and inland areas in its second landfall in the country in two days.
Local authorities told Reuters Grace smashed windows, uprooted trees, power cables and telegraph poles, leaving rubble around Tecolutla. Governor of Mexico’s Veracruz state said 330,000 people lost power in the storm which was gradually restored.
