The Bangladesh Coast Guard rescued 11 fishermen from a sinking boat in the Bay of Bengal, three nautical miles south of Sarikait at Sandwip in Chattogram on Tuesday evening, said a press release.
The fishing boat FV Jihad, carrying the fishermen, stalled due to a glitch in its engine and began sinking at about 7:00pm after it had set sailed for the sea from Monpura in Bhola.
On information from another fishing boat in the area, the members of the coast guard outpost in Sarikait rushed to the spot and rescued the fishermen alive.
The fishermen were handed over to the boat owner after they had been given food and primary treatment, said the coast guard east zone’s media officer Lieutenant M Abdur Rauf.
