The Maharashtra finance department has approved the disbursement of Rs 15.80 crore as compensation for the losses sustained by fishermen during the 2019 Kyarr and Maha cyclones.
The state government had already approved a special financial package of Rs 65.17 crore in September 2020 for the fishermen affected by the cyclone ‘Kyaar’ and ‘Maha’ and the fishermen who were facing financial crisis due to stormy weather from August to October 2019. But with the Covid-19 crisis hitting the state soon after, only 50% of the funds were disbursed. Now the remaining amount too has been approved for disbursal. “This will bring relief to the affected farmers,” said fisheries minister Aslam Shaikh.
