Delegates from 40 countries in Latin America, Central America, Europe, Asia and Africa will meet in Ecuador to seek new alternatives to project small-scale fisheries and aquaculture work within the framework of the 5th General Assembly of the World Forum of Fish Harvesters and Fish Workers (WFF).
The event, organized by WFF and the National Federation of Fishing Cooperatives of Ecuador (Fenacopec), together with the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Aquaculture and Fisheries (MAGAP), through the Vice Ministry of Aquaculture and Fisheries and the Ministry of Defence, will take place in Salinas from 26 to 29 January.
The World Forum represents all organizations, associations, cooperatives, unions and networks of fishermen worldwide engaged in fishing at sea, inland waters, lagoons, insular waters and everything related to the field of aquaculture on a small scale, and whose livelihoods depend directly on the sustainable management of fishery resources.
The event aims to outline new policies at the international level as the basis of fishing activity for the next five years and the election of the new global directory, said Gabriela Cruz, president of Fenacopec.
It is the first time that Ecuador will be the host country for this global event, which has already been held in India, France, Africa and Europe.
