Members of the Heiltsuk First Nation in Canada say federal fisheries minister Dominic LeBlanc must come to Bella Bella to personally observe the effects of a diesel fuel spill from a grounded tug.
Heiltsuk members are angry that LeBlanc says salvage plans and clean-up are progressing and all the contaminants have been pumped out of the tug.
Only about half of the more than 200,000 litres of diesel has been recovered so far and Heiltsuk Chief Marilyn Slett says the environmental impact on area fisheries is still unclear.
NDP MP Nathan Cullen says government response to the spill has been woefully inadequate and is appealing to the federal government for financial assistance for the Heiltsuk.
The Nathan E. Stewart ran aground two weeks ago today.
