Nigerian fishers have called on President Muhammadu Buhari to establish ministry of fisheries and aquaculture to upgrade the diversification of the economy from non-oil sector and as a dividend of democracy to fishermen.
President of Fisheries Cooperative Federation of Nigeria Evangelist Anthony Ashagye who made the plea yesterday during the North-central zonal fisheries awareness rally at Tunga in Awe LGA of Nasarawa state, said that fish commodity was a source of food security, poverty reduction, employment generation, wealth creation and gender equity, adding that fishermen were self-employed people helping to ease national unemployment rate but unacknowledged by politicians and governments.
