Namibia’s fishing ministry plans to release reserve quotas for horse mackerel, hake and the country’s other fisheries within the next two weeks, the Namibian newspaper New Era reported.
Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources Bernard Esau made the comments as he announced that the ministry is making changes to the way it allocates quotas within the fishing sector.
Our deliberations and consultations were not a platform for exploring philosophical views surrounding allocation of fishing quotas, but instead concentrated on the necessary steps to empower fishing enterprises and by extension the entire industry, the minister said.
