Indonesia’s Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (MMAF) through the Hiu Macan (Tiger Shark) Patrol Ship Number 001 belonging to PSDKP-Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries arrested five Vietnamese vessels in a patrol in Natuna waters.

Meanwhile, the arrest occurred when Hiu Macan Ship with hull numbered 001 was patrolling the Natuna waters.

“One of our patrol boats ambushed five foreign ships. Location is in Natuna waters,” said Secretary General of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Rifky Effendi Hardjianto in Jakarta, Wednesday (05/24/2017).

From the ambush, MMAF managed to secure 11 captains and crew aboard the Vietnamese-flagged fishing boats for further inspection.

Rifki further said after the incident, MMAF has met with the Embassy of Vietnam and has reached several agreements. One of them is to solve the case in a diplomatic way.

“We agree to resolve this incident with diplomatic channels. Then we try to prevent the incident of this case from recurring,” he concluded.
