The Secretary of Agriculture of Mexico, José Calzada Rovirosa, and the Minister of the Food Industry of Cuba, María del Carmen de la Concepción, signed the update of the Fisheries Agreements framed in compliance with the official provisions for the fishing activity in Exclusive Economic Zones intended to guarantee the sustainability of marine resources.
Calzada Rovirosa said that this is a good opportunity to ratify the historic relationship between the two nations, linked by cooperation, exchange of experiences, information and mutual support in agricultural and fishery issues.
For her part, the Cuban minister stressed that this is a continuity of more than 40 years of joint work in fisheries through scientific and technical exchange as well as strengthening ties of brotherhood and cooperation in different economic and social areas, with the celebration of the XXXVII Meeting of Mexican-Cuba Fisheries Authorities.
At the event, held at the headquarters of the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food (SAGARPA), it was reported that among the actions to be developed are the reconciliation of figures and the payment of catch rights as well as the revision of the Vessel Satellite Monitoring Program of Cuba that have fishing permits.
In addition, a specific cooperation agenda containing biological-fishery investigations of the red grouper was agreed; the promotion and development of aquaculture in inland waters; implementation of binational Mexico-Cuba management strategies for the lobster fishery, and training programs and comprehensive technical assistance.
As part of the activities of this Cuban delegation, it has been planned that today they are going to participate in 2017 Pescamar Expo Restaurants, with the programming of meetings of fishery and aquaculture producers interested in commercial businesses.
