Scotland’s fishermen have criticised the UK government for planning to assign powers over fishing to Westminster after Brexit, warning that it will damage the industry.
In what will be a significant boost for the Scottish government, the Scottish Fishermen’s Federation (SFF) has intervened to back the full handover of fishing powers to Holyrood. Nicola Sturgeon has been warning for months about what she claims is a Westminster power grab.
The UK government intends to take back all powers currently exercised by the EU and create joint frameworks for the whole of the UK before handing powers to devolved administrations.
