Peru’s Minister of Production Pablo Olaechea informed that IMARPE has already made the arrangements for the performance of two surveys to assess the squid and mahi mahi population status in the Peruvian sea.

“IMARPE has three vessels and for giant squid there will be the one with the greatest capacity, and the industrial sector can also lend vessels, which is something that we still have to analyze,” he explained.

The minister announced that, for the first time, this year a study on squid and mahi mahi will be performed in order to determine the degree of exploitation of these resources, for whose management at the moment only bans are implemented, and know their true potential.

The reports on both resources will begin once the anchovy season ends. There is no exact date, but from the Ministry of Production it is estimated that it would be this month.
