The tenth meeting of the Ad Hoc Working Group of the Whole on the Regular Process for Global Reporting and Assessment of the State of the Marine Environment, including Socioeconomic Aspects (the Regular Process) will be held from 28 February to 1 March 2018 at United Nations Headquarters. The meeting is convened in accordance with paragraph 330 of General Assembly resolution 7 2/73 of 5 December 2017 on Oceans and the law of the sea
The General Assembly, in its resolution 7 2/73 recalled that the Regular Process shall be overseen and guided by its Ad Hoc Working Group of the Whole, and decided that the Working Group shall facilitate the delivery of the outputs of the second cycle as outlined
in the programme of work for the period 2017-2020 for the second cycle of the Regular Process. In accordance with the decision of the General Assembly that in the elaboration of an outline, the Group of Experts should proceed on the basis of the preparation of a
single comprehensive assessment, the
Group of Experts have prepared a
draft outline of the second world ocean assessment which will inform the preparation of the assessment. The outline will be made available in advance of the meeting and
will be considered by the Working Group for approval. The Working Group will be presented, for its consideration, with the following drafts prepared by the Group of Experts:
a draft timetable and plan of implementation to guide the preparation of the second world ocean assessment and draft guidance for contributors, part 2.
In addition, the Working Group will be provided with presentations on the outcome of the first round of regional workshops to assist the second cycle and will also consider preparations for the second round of regional workshops. Further, the Working Group will have the opportunity to provide input on capacity-building, including on the compilation and maintenance of a capacity-building inventory, and on the holding of a multi-stakeholder dialogue (case studies of good practices) and a
capacity-building partnership event.
