The Peruvian production ministry has banned anchovy fishing temporarily in some areas, which were characterized by high presence of juveniles. The four days’ ban, issued on April 20, affects the areas in front of Punta Hermosa- Lima and in front of Paracas-Ica and Pisco, according to Produce’s release.

The areas of Pimentel, Chicama, Casma, Chancay, Huacho, Pucusana and Pisco were also closed on April 22, La Republica reported. Fishmeal and fish oil prices have been dropping, since expectations of a strong anchovy fishing quota for the ongoing season have been met.
