Real fish consumption in Russia in 2012 dropped by almost a quarter, to be calculations of the information Agency for fisheries.
As said to Interfax the head of the Agency Alexander Saveliev, the calculations showed that in 2019 real consumption amounted to 12,9 kg product weight per person.
This level of consumption of fish products, according to the Russian statistical Yearbook, was in our country in the early 60-ies of the last century, and also during the collapse of the Soviet Union, he said, adding that in 2000 this figure dropped to 10.4 kg to 20.4 kg in 1990. In 2005 consumption was 12.6 kg.
High fish consumption in Russia in this century was registered in 2012 of 17.1 kg per person. The extraction of water biological resources in the year amounted to 4.27 million tons, which is almost 650 thousand tons less than in 2019.
Calculations based on official data on the catch of fish in 2019 (4,917 tons), export and import of products (including use for processing imported fish raw materials), showed that the volume of food fish products for sale on the domestic market in 2019, as in the previous year, amounted to 1.9 million tonnes (including sales of imported finished products from fish and seafood). Per capita consumption of 12.9 kg.
Saveliev recalled that the Ministry of health of the Russian Federation in 2016 set meets modern requirements of a healthy diet the recommended amount of fish product consumption is 22 kg per person per year (product weight).
At the same time in 2013 on the basis of the methodology developed by taking into account the recommendations of the Food and agriculture organization of the UN (FAO), the Rosstat began to determine the level of the per capita consumption of fish and fish products on the basis of the balance formed in live weight (i.e., raw, guts). The rate of consumption is rapidly jerked upward with 24.8 kg per capita in 2013. But it is a fish consumption on paper, and people eat cut fish, noted the Saveliev.
