The state cabinet on Wednesday cleared a series of schemes to boost the fisheries sector. The state decided to implement the Centre’s Fisheries and Aquaculture Infrastructure Development Fund. This aims for the development of jetties and landing areas for fishermen. The Centre is to provide Rs.7,522 crore to states over 5 years between 2018 and 2023. The cabinet also agreed to implement the PM’s Fisheries scheme in the state. It is to be implemented between 2020-21 and 2024-25. The Centre’s contribution will be Rs 9,407 crore and the state’s share will be Rs.4,880 crore. It aims to improve acquaculture facilities especially for prawns, crabs and shellfish.
