Fish markets and roadside fish stalls were abuzz with the activity across the district as huge number of people thronged them to purchase fish on the day of mrigashira karte on Monday. The fish market at Prakasham bazaar and roadside fish market near bypass road in Nalgonda witnessed huge crowds. A very disturbing development is that no measures were taken up by the municipal authorities or stall owners for maintenance of physical distancing at the fish stalls. People believe that eating fish on the day of Mrigashira Karte would cure the ailments particularly respiratory problems. Price of all varieties of fish was increased due to Mrigashira Karte. Murrell fish have high demand on the day and were priced at Rs 650 per kg depending upon their size. Actually, the price would have been Rs 450 on normal days. The price of Bocha and Rava fish varieties were also increased to Rs 250 per kg from Rs 140. As the village tanks were brimming with the water, fishes were available at the village for the people in the district. The availability of the fish also increased in the district after filling up of the village tanks through canals and releasing of the fishlings in them.
