Representatives of fishermen associations on Thursday demanded insurance coverage to all marine fishing boats and supply of satellite phones on 75 per cent subsidy to the deep sea fishing boats besides issuing of biometric identity cards expeditiously. Giving their opinions and suggestions on the National marine fishing regulations and management draft bill 2019 at a meeting held at the state institute of fisheries technology (SIFT) here, they have requested for exemption to the traditional and motorized fishing boats from this act. They also demanded inland waters jurisdiction to be doubled from the existing 12 nautical miles as the shore waters are not suited for fishing due to severe pollution.
