Five arterial roads in the coastal area in Koyilandy are set for a complete makeover. The fisheries department has sanctioned Rs 2 crore for the improvement of the coastal roads in Koyilandy assembly constituency. The fund was allocated from the Coastal Road Development fund of the fisheries department. The road development aims to improve the connectivity between the coastal villages in the area. The work of all five arterial roads will begin on an emergency basis, said K Dasan, MLA of Koyilandy. The renovation of the existing roads and the construction of drainages and culverts are parts of the improvement project, he added. While the Purakkad- Govindamenonkettu Road work will be completed spending Rs 47 lakh, the Payyoli Akshara College- Bhajana Madam link road will be completed spending Rs 22 lakh. The work of Moodadi Nambolantavide temple road received Rs 29 lakh, Chengottukavu Ezhukudikkal road Rs 41 lakh and Payyoli second gate- Kottakkal road Rs 64 lakh for the renovation work. All the five roads are interior roads parallel to the national highway. Three major road development works are also in progress in Koyilandy constituency. According to the MLA, the Public Works Department (PWD) will complete the work of three roads utilising the Rs 34 crore allocated from the Central Road Fund (CRF). Rs 14 crore will be spent in completion of Koyilandy-Muthambi-Anjampeediaka road. the 14km stretch of the PWD will be widened to 9 metres. The width of the road will be increased up to 11 metres at curves. The development work of the Muthambi- Naduvannur road will be completed spending Rs 10 crore. Koyilandi- Anelakkadavu Muthambi road will also cost Rs 10 crore.
