East Godavari Collector Kartikeya Mishra has asked the authorities concerned to strengthen the coastal security, rescue and surveillance machinery all along the coast in the district. Addressing the district level coastal security committee meeting at his chambers here on Tuesday, he has instructed the officials to issue biometric identity cards to all the fishermen engaged in fishing in the sea to serve the purpose of providing identity besides and extending benefits under various welfare schemes. As against the 30 landing centers notified in the coast, identity cards were issued to 50,220 fishermen, who use these centers for carrying out fishing operations in the sea. In order to identify the fishing boats during security check special colour coding needed to be implemented to them. As against the 3909 fishing boats colour coding was completed in case of 3500 boats so far and the remaining to be covered expeditiously.
