In addition, sessions intended to provide an overview of the marine fisheries resource management, challenges in mariculture, impact of plastic pollution in the ocean, effect of climate change on marine fisheries and evolution of teleost fishes will also be held during the programme. In a bid to provide exposure to the prospects of genetics and genomics in fisheries resource management, conservation, and mariculture, a training course on the application of advanced molecular methods got underway at the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) on Wednesday. Organised by the Marine Biotechnology division of the CMFRI with the financial support of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), the 10-day long course will provide training to 25 teachers and researchers from various universities and ICAR research institutes across the country. Important aspects of genetics and genomics that are relevant to marine biology and fisheries, including population genetics, population genomics, eDNA based estimation of marine biodiversity, next-generation sequencing methods, etc will be discussed during the training programme.
