President Abdul Hamid urged the concerned people to remain watchful in the supervision of adulteration-free fish production. The President said this at an event on the occasion of National Fisheries Week-2018′ at Bangabhaban on Tuesday. President’s Press Secretary Joynal Abedin quoted the President as saying, “Fish farming is one of the major sectors of employment. The concerned people should remain watchful in the supervision of adulteration-free fish production to continue development of the sector and exporting fish. The President said, The fisheries sector made a significant contribution in fulfilling the demand of protein as well as employment of huge population. But local species of fish are gradually decreasing in the low-lying areas and haor areas. Mentioning the fishing in the open water as very important for earning fishermen’s livelihood, the President urged all to release quality fish fries to all water bodies, especially, low-lying areas and haor for further development of fisheries. Besides, the President also asked the Department of Fisheries to take special initiative to preserve the local species of the fish. Later, the President released 4,100 fish fries of Rui, Katla, Mrigel Pabda, Chital in the lake of Bangabhaban. Fisheries and Livestock minister Narayon Chandra Chanda and other officials were present in the programme. On the other hand, the National Fisheries Week 2018 is being observed across the country from July 18 to 24 with the theme of Bangabandhu’s country, self-sufficient with fish. On the closing day of the week, Fisheries and Livestock Minister Narayan Chandra Chanda will hand over the National Fisheries Award 2018 among the persons and institutions at Krishibid Institution. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the week on July 19 by releasing fish fries at the lake of Ganobhaban.
