The International Collective in Support of Fishworkers (ICSF) would like to express its appreciation to the FAO Secretariat for including a section on smallscale fisheries under the questionnaire for reporting the progress of the implementation of the Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries, thus continuing a practice first introduced in the 32nd Session of COFI. We understand that there are three different CCRF Questionnaires: one addressed to the Member States, one to regional fisheries bodies and one addressed to the CSOs and NGOs. While appreciating section B, small-scale fisheries, under COFI/2018/3 which, inter alia, reports on the implementation of the Voluntary Guidelines for Securing Sustainable Small-scale Fisheries in the Context of Food Security and Poverty Eradication (SSF Guidelines) by Member States, there is no information on what the regional fisheries bodies and NGOs/CSOs have undertaken toward the implementation of the SSF Guidelines. We would, therefore, request this Committee to advise FAO Secretariat to broaden the questionnaire targeted at regional fisheries bodies and NGOs/CSOs on the implementation of the Code also to report on their activities toward the implementation of the SSF Guidelines. This would certainly be in line with broadening and deepening the implementation of the Code since the SSF Guidelines are developed complementary to the Code and are to support responsible fisheries and sustainable resource utilisation. Let us hope we have a more comprehensive questionnaire to capture all efforts towards embracing responsible fisheries when we observe the 25th anniversary of the Code in 2020.
