The Gahirmatha Marine Sanctuary personnel on Tuesday arrested 13 fishermen on the charges of catching fish illegally by trespassing into the No fishing zone of the sanctuary. The forest personnel intercepted two Paradip-based trawlers, arrested 13 fishermen, seized 11 quintals of fish catch,12 numbers of fishing nets , two VHF sets, two fish finder equipments and two number of GPS sets from the arrested fishermen. All the arrested fishermen belonged to Kendrapara and Bhadrak districts. They were booked under the various sections of Wildlife Protection Act and produced before the Rajnagar court which remanded them jail custody after rejecting their bail pleas. On July 2 last also the the Gahirmatha Marine Sanctuary personnel seized two Balaramgadi based trawlers and arrested 15 fishermen for their involvement in catching fish illegally after trespassing into the core area of Gahirmatha Marine Sanctuary.
