Law and Sports Minister Kollu Ravindra on Tuesday said that the State government was examining a proposal to offer subsidy on fuel for fishing boats on a par with the other coastal States. Addressing a gathering of fishermen here, Mr. Ravindra said the Department of Fisheries had drafted a plan to offer huge subsidy on the fuel for the fishing boats following a study in the other coastal States. The Minister distributed fishing nets, two-wheelers and GPS (Global Positioning System) sets to the 205 beneficiaries at 75 % subsidy at a special programme here. The State government is willing to encourage the fishermen community by providing fishing boats with each worth Rs. 80 lakh at 50 % subsidy. Interested fishermen, both individuals and groups, can send applications, said Mr. Ravindra. Krishna District Fishermen Association president Kokkiligadda Ramesh and Fisheries Department assistant director A.V. Raghava Reddy were among those present.
