Prices of fish were expected to go up as the 61-day annual ban on deep sea fishing by mechanised trawlers along the East Coast of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, commenced from midnight last night. The ban would be in force till June 15. Around 5,600 mechanised boats, across 13 coastal districts in the State, would not venture into the sea for fishing during this period.
