Endowments and Housing Minister Allola Indrakaran Reddy said the State government’s Integrated Fisheries Development Scheme (IFDS) would help fishermen grow economically. He was addressing the fishermen at an awareness programme on the newly launched scheme held here on Tuesday. Reddy said the government would spend Rs 1,000 crore through IFDS. As a result, the fishermen community would achieve financial growth. The objective of the scheme is to enhance the productivity of fingerlings, provide marketing opportunities and impart industry skills. The Minister said as many as 80 crore fingerlings would be raised in reservoirs and irrigation tanks across the State, while 4 crore fishlings would be released in the water bodies of Nirmal district this year free of cost. A sum of Rs 70 lakh was sanctioned for the construction of a building for fishermen community and a fish market would be erected costing Rs 50 lakh. Collector M Prashanti, trainee IAS officer Kranti Reddy, District Fisheries Officer Devender Reddy and many others were present.
