The Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), East Siang, in collaboration with the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, College of Horticulture and Forestry, Pasighat on Wednesday organized daylong skill development training cum demonstration programme on Low Cost Solar Fish Drying Method’ for the farming community of Mebo. The objective of the programme was to acquaint the framers on hygienic methods of fish preservation. Speaking on the occasion, Subject Matter Specialist, Fisheries, S M Hussain highlighted the need for a balanced diet and importance of integrated farming to reduce malnutrition, enhancing food security and income generation. He also stressed on the slogan of grow locally and think globally to the trainees. Training cum demonstration on the methods of construction of low cost solar dryers and process of fish drying was demonstrated to progressive farmers. The low cost solar dryer can be constructed by utilizing locally available materials like bamboo, wood, and white or black polythene sheets. During the programme, 44 progressive farmers were trained about the procedure of fish preservation by using salting and sun drying methods in a hygienic way. At the end of the programme, four units of low cost solar dryers were distributed to four groups of farmers of Mebo block by the Deputy Director Agriculture (Training).
