A good quantity of fingerlings of various fishes worth of Tk 0.87 million was released at the waterbodies of the district over a couple of weeks to enhance fish production. Office sources said Department of Fisheries took an initiative to release fingerlings of Indian major carp species fish like Ruhi, Katla and Mrigel at waterbodies of the district. The objective of the releasing of the fingerlings was to enhance the fish production in the country and to meet up the demand of protein side by side with creating working opportunity for the fishermen, said an official of the department. Rezaul Karim, district fisheries officer, said the fingerling releasing activity at the waterbodies of the district was inaugurated by the MPs of the respective constituencies. The fingerlings worth of Tk 0.12 million were released at the waterbodies of the seven upazilas each here, he added.
