The International Collective in Support of Fishworkers (ICSF) has just released the latest edition of its popular fisheries publication -Yemaya, its newsletter on gender and fisheries. The latest edition of Yemaya, ICSF’s newsletter on gender and fisheries No. 52, dated September 2016, focuses on the recently concluded 6th Global Symposium on Gender in Aquaculture and Fisheries (GAF6), held in Bangkok from 3 to 6 August. The meeting underscored the need for the effective implementation of the Voluntary Guidelines for Securing Sustainable Small-Scale Fisheries in the Context of Food Security and Poverty Eradication (the SSF Guidelines)a key demand uniting women across the small-scale fisheries sector today. The latest issue features the situation of women mollusk gatherers in Costa Rica, the demand of fisherwomen in Brazil on their right to social security and decent work, Profile of a Kenyan woman fisherfolk leader, Mercy Wasai Mghanga, participation of inland fisherwomen in eel fisheries management which is part of the identity of Dutch inland fishers, who call themselves eel fishers even though they also fish other species.
