Pernem fisher women raised a concerning issue of the dilapidated condition of fish market shelter and the floor on Monday. The fisher women have demanded the authorities to take an immediate action by repairing the market.
On Monday fisherwomen form Pernem voiced their concerns over the pernem fish market. During monsoon, the floor gets flooded causing a problem to the fisher women to sell fish as well as for the buyers. Leaks from broken roof tiles create further inconvenience, causing water to seep into the market and overflowing gutters to flood the surrounding roads.
Highlighting their plight, a fisherwoman stated, “Lot of difficulties we have to face every day. The drains are blocked which doesn’t allow the fish water to seep through. Rather all the dirty water comes back on the market floor. This makes us and the people who come to buy difficult to walk and trade.”
Fisherwoman said that because of this many customers don’t come to market to buy fish and even if they did, they would not enter due to the mess. They even asserted that they are ready to pay for the renovation of the market. Chair person Siddesh Pednekar gave an assurance saying that the problem will be solved very soon.
