Though the unavailability of marine fish during Covid-19 forced fish lovers to go for cultured fish, preference for these varieties still remains persistent post-Covid. The taste preference of fish consumers in Kerala has been subjected to change thanks to Covid -19, with the demand for farmed fish like tilapia increasing even after the pandemic period, according to a study conducted by the ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI).
“Though the unavailability of marine fish during the Covid period forced fish lovers to go for cultured fish, preference for these varieties still remains persistent post- Covid showing a change from the pre-pandemic fish consumption behaviour” the study under a National level research project said.
The market would have all modern facilities for fish marketing, including an open hall and 39 stalls. Tenders for the construction would be floated this month and construction was expected to begin in April, said a release issued by the office of the Minister.
The Minister also directed the officials to speed up the process to complete the work on time. Senior officials from Thiruvananthapuram Corporation, KIIFB, Kerala State Coastal Area Development Corporation (KSCADC), and other attended the meeting.
